Here is a little marigold flower that I rustled up this morning, based on hyperbolic crochet…a freeform technique that I just think is so fun to hook.

I used:

stylecraft special dk Yarn – Gold

4mm hook

darning needle

Stitches used:

Ch – chain

 St – stitch

dc– double crochet

(insert hook into stitch in previous row (top two loops), yarn around the hook (YRH) and pull through (you should now have 2 loops on your hook), YRH and pull through both loops…dc complete).

 htr – half treble crochet

(YRH, insert hook into st in previous row (top two loops), YRH and pull through (you should now have 3 loops on your hook),YRH and pull through all 3 loops…htr complete).

tr – treble crochet

(YRH, insert hook into st in previous row (top two loops), YRH and pull through (you should now have 3 loops on your hook), YRH and pull through first 2 loops (2 loops on hook), YRH, and pull through the final 2 loops…tr complete.

dtr – double treble crochet

(YRH twice, insert hook into st in previous row (top two loops), YRH and pull through (you should now have 4 loops on your hook), YRH and pull through first 2 loops (3 loops on hook), YRH and pull through 2 loops (2 loops on hook), YRH and pull through remaining 2 loops… dtr complete).

  • row 7.  ch1 (counts as dc), dc in same sp.  Make x2 sts in each st – randomly choosing between dc, htr,tr and dtr – put them in random pairs ie/ a dc with a dc or a tr with a tr…..free form a bit!

  • hyperbolic crochet

  • row 8.  Repeat row 7, fasten off and manipulate in to a    flower before using the tails to secure petal position by sewing with a darning needle at base of  flower.
